"I would like to bring to your attention the work ethic of Paul. I have just completed my Yorkshire Ambulance Driver training course in which he has been my instructor for the last 4 weeks. I can honestly say it was an absolute pleasure to work alongside him for this time. Speaking on behalf of myself, Jayne and Luke we have never come across a man more suited for this role. His background for emergency driving and his past experience was highlighted daily as he taught all of us how to drive in a professional and safe manner.
Paul has a unique way of teaching which was highly popular not just with our group (myself, Jayne and Luke) but with the entire driving course. We felt extremely lucky to have Paul teaching our group. He always offered good advice and used different techniques and methods to teach us the safest driving methods which will not only benefit us for our new roles of Paramedics and Emergency Care Assistants but also for our personal driving. If we were struggling with any aspect he would happily offer extra support and would also offer us the opportunity to drive for longer periods if we felt we were struggling with any aspect.
We have thoroughly enjoyed our time working with him and came to know him as a truly valuable asset to your team. He is honest, dependable, and incredibly hard-working. Beyond that, he is an extremely likeable man who represents emstar to a very high standard. He has simply been an absolute joy to work with. He is a true team player, and always manages to foster positive discussions and brought the best out of us."

"I wanted to say a big thank you for all the work you did with me and John last week. You worked hard to find out what we needed to learn, and very sensitively insisted on us changing some of our habits around to the "right" way. You sneaked in topics which we would later be assessed on, demonstrating how well you know the syllabus and what is expected of your candidates. The assessment result says it all really - you know your subject really well and are an expert at getting it across. We really enjoyed our five days' driving, and feel we got a lot out of the course. We will be talking about it for a long time!"

"First blue light run from a grateful student. It was raining, on the M25 with spray and poor visibility but what a way to start. Just went for it. My hands were squeezing the wheel so tight I don't think I regained feeling in my fingers for several hours. The tension soon faded as concentration kicked in. The initial weeks of prep all falling into place, 10 minutes in I relaxed, adrenaline replaced by enjoyment, limit point, appropriate lane changing and overtaking, when to use the siren all running through my head. It passed in a blur!! But will never be forgotten.
After leaving the course and starting out on the road I was apprehensive to say the least but once behind the wheel all I could hear was Paul and John sat on my shoulder guiding me along. I was full of doubt but it wasn't until I was out on my own I realised just how much they had taught me. The unpredictability of other road users will always be a problem but one I feel equipped to tackle. Four months on accident free and my confidence is growing all the time. It's not just a job it's a way of life. Driving the ambulance is a big part of our job but it's great to now feel comfortable enough not to worry about jumping behind the wheel anymore and being able to focus on patient care. One word Paul ...PRESENT... you would not believe how many times I drive through town and all I can hear is you shouting that. You would be proud 🙂"
"I've had excellent standards of training from EMSTAR through St John Ambulance - good decision by EEAST!"
